Instructions for using the kit

Important Tips

  • The pot life of the mixed resin (after mixing the resin and hardener) is 20–30 minutes.
It is very important to use the correct proportions. Pour out the entire contents of the bottles.
If you are unsure whether you will have enough time in 20–30 minutes, you can use scales and do the following:
Stage 1: Mix the resin for the sand in a 2:1 ratio.
For example, 20 grams of resin and 10 grams of hardener. Cover the island with sand.
Stage 2: Mix the remaining resin for the sea and waves in the same 2:1 ratio.
For example, 60 grams of resin and 30 grams of hardener. Mix, colour (paint) the resin for the sea, pour the light part of the sea, pour the dark part of the sea, make waves.
  • Before starting work with the resin, degrease the art board using an alcohol wipe.
  • Be careful — resin cannot be removed from clothing or carpets without leaving a trace.
Use personal protective equipment and protect your work surface.
If resin gets on your skin, wash the affected area thoroughly with warm water and soap, then apply a soothing cream.
Make sure no allergic reaction occurs. If necessary, consult a doctor.
  • When creating a painting, it is important to have a flat surface.
Use a regular construction level or download a "level" app on your phone.
  • To make the waves look realistic and form "cells", the resin mixed with pigment powder must be thick — with the consistency of liquid honey.
This happens approximately 15–20 minutes after mixing components A and B.
When blowing the waves, the air should be hot, and the speed should be minimal.
The speed and flow of the hair dryer determine whether you get calm or "stormy" waves.
  • If bubbles form on the surface of the painting, this is a normal reaction of the resin.
To remove them, you can use a gas torch: after finishing the painting, briefly pass the flame over the surface for a couple of seconds.
  • For a perfectly smooth surface after pouring, cover the painting with a large box to protect it from dust particles.
  • The most important factor affecting the curing of epoxy resin is room temperature.
The ideal temperature for working with resin is 20–25 °C.
If it’s warmer, the resin cures faster, and working time is reduced.
If the temperature is below 20 °C, the curing slows down — and in some cases, the resin may not harden at all.
  • Another factor affecting the quality of work is air humidity. It should not be high, otherwise a film may form on the product.

TEXT INSTRUCTIONS

Initial preparations
Cover your work surface with plastic sheeting, put on gloves, an apron and a protective respirator mask, and tie your hair back.
Take 3 large cups and turn them upside down. Place the art board with the white side facing up on the cups. Pour the resin (component A) and hardener (component B) from the bottles into a large cup.
Take two spatulas and stir the resin thoroughly for 3-5 minutes, scraping it from the bottom and sides of the cup. Your movements should be confident but not too fast. All streaks should disappear from the cup. The finished mixture will remain usable for about 20-30 minutes. After that, it will begin to thicken.

Magic is coming soon
Next, pour the mixture into four small cups, leaving a little resin in the large cup. Pour sand into the first cup and stir. The resin and sand should have a thick consistency. Add a drop of white colour to the second cup with a spatula, then add blue colour. Add a couple of drops of blue colour to the third cup.
How much dye you add depends on how saturated you want your sea to be. A couple of drops if you want a translucent colour, 5–7 drops if you want a more saturated colour. Add the colour gradually, stirring and checking the saturation directly on the artboard (in the areas where this colour will be used) or on the sides of the cup. Add white powder for waves to the fourth cup and stir well for 1–2 minutes.
Use a pencil to draw the outlines of the islands on the board. Then start pouring the resin mixed with sand onto these outlines. You can use a spatula to help you spread the sand mixed with resin. IMPORTANT: When forming the island, don't forget about the time and make sure that the resin does not harden.
Use a spatula to spread the resin with sand, forming islands. Take a large cup of uncoloured resin and pour it in a thin stream along the line of the islands on the side where the sea will be.
Next, fill the board with blue paint where you will have a light area of the sea. You can fill the cup with only part of the contents, then add another drop of blue paint to the same cup, stir well and pour the contents onto the board (above the first layer of the sea). This is how we create depth and ‘multilayeredness’ of the sea.
Next, fill in the board with blue paint where you will have a darker area of the sea. You can fill it in the same way as with blue (fill in part of it and paint the other part in a more saturated colour). As you fill it in, spread the resin across the board with a spatula, creating a beautiful transition between the dark and light colours.

Let the magic happen
Now it's time to create waves. Squeeze the foam cup to form a ‘spout’ and start pouring waves along the shoreline and in the places where your painting should have waves. Or apply white pigment with a spatula along the shoreline. Wait a minute for the pigment to sink into the resin. Take a hair dryer, warm it up (not over the painting), turn on the hot air flow and direct the air stream at the waves, blowing them up.
Hold the hair dryer at an angle of approximately 45 degrees. Do not linger in one place for too long and do not blow waves in one place multiple times, otherwise the white colour will simply mix with the heated resin, forming streaks instead of waves.

Final touches
Arrange the moss, shells, and pebbles from the kit on the sand in any order you like. You can also add shells that you have collected from the sea. After 8–15 hours, your picture will harden and be completely ready! We sincerely hope that our set will bring you a lot of joy and positive emotions.
