Instructions for Using the Kit

Important Tips

  • The pot life of the mixed resin (after mixing the resin and hardener) is 20-30 minutes.
It is very important to use the correct proportions. Pour out the entire contents of the bottles.
If you are unsure whether you will have enough time within 20-30 minutes, you can use scales and do the following:
Stage 1: Mix the resin for the sand in a 2:1 ratio. For example, 20 grams of resin and 10 grams of hardener. Cover the island with sand.
Stage 2: Mix the remaining resin for the sea and waves in the same 2:1 ratio.
For example, 60 grams of resin and 30 grams of hardener. Mix, colour (paint) the resin for the sea, pour the light part of the sea, pour the dark part of the sea, and make waves.
  • Before starting work with the resin, degrease the art board with an alcohol wipe.
  • Be careful, resin cannot be removed from clothing and carpets without leaving a trace. Use personal protective equipment and surface protection. If resin gets on any part of your body, wash it thoroughly with warm water and soap, then apply a soothing cream to the area. Make sure no allergic reaction occurs. If necessary, consult a doctor.
  • When creating a painting, it is important to have a flat surface. Use a regular construction level or download a “level” app on your phone.
  • To make the waves realistic and with ‘cells’, the resin mixed with powder must be thick enough, with the consistency of liquid honey. This occurs approximately 15–20 minutes after mixing components A and B. When blowing the waves, the air should be hot and the speed should be minimal. The speed and flow of the hair dryer determine whether you get calm or ‘stormy’ raging waves.
  • If bubbles form on the surface of the painting, this is a normal reaction of the resin. To remove them, you can use a gas burner: after creating the painting, pass the gas burner over it for a couple of seconds.
  • For a perfectly smooth surface after pouring, you can cover the painting with a large box to prevent small dust particles from falling on it.
  • The most important factor affecting the curing of epoxy resin is the room temperature.
The ideal air temperature for working with resin is 20–25 °C.
If it is higher, the epoxy resin hardens faster and the working time is reduced. If the room temperature is below 20 °C, the products take longer than usual to harden, and sometimes do not harden at all.
  • Another factor affecting the quality of work is air humidity. It should not be high; otherwise, a film may form on the product.
